Map of Lincolnshire and Louth
Lincolnshire Poacher Country - Welcome to the Lincolnshire Wolds
which is affectionally known as Poacher Country. The capital of Poacher
country is Louth which is to the East with Caistor, Market Rasen and Horncastle
along the west of the Wolds. Henry VIII regarded Lincolnshire as
one of the most unruly counties in his realm, this was down to one particular
activity and that was poaching. Lincolnshire has been and always will be a haven
of wildlife and is particularly rich in pheasants - ideal poaching country even
today! Tourists can of course enjoy an impressive choice of wildlife and bird watching
sanctuaries throughout the Wolds and also at Gibraltar point near Skegness. Terrain
along East is predominately flat until the Lincolnshire Wolds which rise to
around 500ft. The Wolds stretches from Barton to Spilsby with Louth, in between.
The area is bisected by the Viking Way
walking route and Hull to Harwich cycle route.
